Application for 2008 AIDS Research Scholarships [Íîâîñòü äîáàâëåíà - 03.10.2007]

The HIV Research Trust Scholarships are for physicians, nurses, scientists, and other health care professionals who are undertaking research in resource poor settings. The award is used develop a candidate’s career and, on return to the home institution, add to the capacity of the department to carry out research related to treatment and prevention.

The HIV Research Trust Scholarships are for physicians, nurses, scientists, and other health care professionals who are undertaking research in resource poor settings. The award is used develop a candidate’s career and, on return to the home institution, add to the capacity of the department to carry out research related to treatment and prevention. 

Examples of acquired skills might be; clinical trial experience, good clinical trial practice, data and trial management, acquisition of laboratory techniques and analyses, trial nurse skills, statistical expertise, aspects of ethics, economics, education and health behaviour.  

The scholarships are usually for a period of three to six months depending on the nature of the proposal. Approximately US$1,200 a month will be available to cover return travel and subsistence while carrying out the research project, with an additional sum (maximum US$2,000) to cover consumables and other additional expenses incurred by the hosting unit.
The trustees  encourage candidates to move within their region to acquire the necessary research skills as far as is possible, i.e. South to South moves within developing countries rather than a move from a developing country to a resource rich one. However, the latter will not be excluded.
